The stage for the final night was not too big, but it was well designed and looked quite spectacular. Considering there are only 40 contestants (unlike its female counterparts which may have as many as 115 contestants), we guess the size of the stage is enough to accommodate all contestants without being too crowded. Serving as the hosts of the show were Steny Agustaf and Cathy Sharon, while the panel of judges composed of Richard Sambera (Editor in Chief Men’s Fitness), Fira Basuki (Editor in Chief Cosmopolitan), Angelique Dewi (Head of Marketing Communications Division Nutrifood Indonesia), Zivanna Letisha Siregar (Puteri Indonesia 2008 and Miss Indonesia Universe 2009), Christina Ramirez (Social Policy Specialist), Chris Chew (Fitness Consultant from Singapore), and Waloop Phrasophol (Direction of Masion Film Thailand).
The show was started with the introduction video of all 40 contestants. The video was shot at various locations in the beautiful Island of God, Bali, with the contestants wearing white shirt and jeans trousers. Afterwards, it’s time for the contestants to appear on the stage, wearing national costume, while accompanied by the upbeat performance of Duo Percussion and Rampak Kendang Nusantara. As in many editions of pageant, the most exciting costumes were the ones from Asia and America contestants. Some stand out costumes were Brazil with his ultra sexy and revealing fiery red costume (which garnered a lot of cheers from the audience, especially the female audience), Venezuela with an elegant combination of black and gold for his costume, Philippines with a warrior inspired costume, Panama with a colorful feathery headdress, and Indonesia with a grandeur gold costume inspired by the Balinese culture.
When the contestants returned after the break, they hit the stage in ethnic wear, accompanied by the performance of Krisdayanti singing Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop The Music”. Sadly it was also the time to say goodbye to 25 contestants as only 15 will advance to the next stage of the competition. The lucky ones were Venezuela, Namibia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Philippines, Austria, Chile, Turkey, Indonesia, Great Britain, Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Greece, France, and Bolivia. The result left us with a mixed feeling as we felt happy that most of favorites made the cut but at the same time we were shocked that some of the most handsome guys like Slovenia, Ireland, and Colombia were left out from the Top 15.
The Top 15 then competed in one of the favorite segment, the swimwear round, with the background music The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go” performed by Rini Idol. But don’t get too excited first, Ladies … as this time, it was not swimwear, but surfwear instead. Quite a bummer huh … but the competition still went on with a bang. Great Britain, with his perfect god-like abs, clearly has the best body among all contestants while Spain stole the show with a cool signature pose at the end of the runway. But the most memorable performance came from no other than Belgium with his “Call Me, Baby!” pose.
The number of candidates was furthered narrowed down to only 10 in the next segment. The Top 10 were Namibia, Chile, Great Britain, Turkey, France, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Spain, Brazil, Greece, and finally (after a long pause and much to the audience relief) ……. Indonesia. Good job on building the tension, guys! They competed on the evening wear, with the background music “Mahadaya Cinta” performed by Krisdayanti. The best catwalk for this round, in our opinion, came from Turkey, Spain, and Indonesia.
Before the elimination continued, some special awards were given to selected contestants. The first award Mister Photogenic, voted by the public via l-menmisterinternational2010.com, was awarded to Sri Lanka. The second award Mister Congeniality, voted by the contestant themselves, was awarded to Honduras. The third award Best National Costume was awarded to Indonesia. And last but not least, Best Body, a special award from L-Men, was awarded to Great Britain. Congratulation guys!
A duet performance of “Rembulan” by Krisdayaanti and Rini Idol accompanied the contestants to the next elimination phase. This time only 5 would go to final round. And they were Spain, Greece, Brazil, Indonesia, and Great Britain. Each of them were given 20 seconds to answer the final question. And here is the list of question asked to the Final 5 ...
Spain was asked whether he prefers spontaneous woman or safe woman, and he answered in Spanish that before he made a relationship with a woman, he would like to know the woman first and tried to make a long term relationship. Errr … not really answering the question, right? But he delivered it in full confidence and hearing him speaking in Spanish just made him even sexier.
Greece was asked if being a handsome man has given him special opportunity in life and how he would use it in special way, and he couldn’t deliver any answer … at all. Too bad Greece couldn’t speak English and there was no translator for him. At that moment, we knew he was out of the competition.
Brazil was asked if swimwear competition in a pageant is already outdated, and he answered in Portuguese that swimwear is still important to show the physical fitness of the contestants. However it should not be the most important thing as the most important thing is the inner beauty. Great answer and he delivered it charmingly to audience applause.
Indonesia was asked to convince the judges to choose him as Mister International and he answered in Indonesian that he believed that he had the talent as good as the other contestants and that his life experience could help to inspire many people and that’s why he is suitable for the title of Mister International. It was actually quite a good answer. Too bad he was a bit nervous, otherwise it would have given more impact to the judges.
Great Britain was the last and asked whether he believed if 2012 would be the end of the world, and he answered that he didn’t believe that as he believed 2012 would be a pleasant and happy year for all of us. It was not actually the most impressive or memorable answer, but the way he delivered it was so charming and full of charisma. So it was clearly either him or Brazil for the title!
After the final walk Mister International 2009, Bruno Kettels, the climax moment finally came! In reverse order, the result was Greece as Fourth Runner Up, Indonesia as Third Runner Up, and Spain as Second Runner Up. That left two contestants in the hot seat and one of them will be Mister International 2010. After a long dramatic pause, Brazil was announced as First Runner Up, which means Mister International 2010 was Great Britain!
Clearly, Great Britain was an obvious choice for the victory. Handsome, athletic, and charismatic. He was also the first choice on our Leaderboard, marking for two years in row, IP Team correctly predicted the winner of Mister International. However the celebration moment of Ryan terry was disturbed when the hosts moved to the center stage, blocking our view from the winner and the other contestants. Guys, in pageant, celebration moment is a sacred one as it marks the welcoming of a new titleholder. Nothing should block the audience view from the moment, including the hosts!
But other than that we had no complain. The show was great, the performers were great, the production number was great, and the result was also great. Overall we were satisfied with the final show. Kudos to L-Men and their team for producing such a great show!
So that it is our review for the final show! Don't miss the show on Trans7 on 27 November 2010 10.00 pm!
